OMG Mickey#2 is BEAUTIFUL!! He's a little tiny thing - about 10 pounds - a goregous chocolate tri.... he's got this brown nose, that I am totally intrigued with!! LOL... it kind of blends into his face... guess I'm so used to seeing the tri colored dogs with the black noses.... LOL I've only seen pix of chocolate tri Ratties, and this is the first I've seen one in person, and he's just absolutely adorable!! He just wants to love love love....and get love :

The introduction of him to my other 5 didn't go very well, but after a rough start, everything's going well.... there's a growl here, a snap there... but that's to be expected.

Sarah, I will take some pictures tonight. I finally remembered to take my camera out of my car and put it back on the charger this morning!!

I hadn't heard from the owner since Wednesday and I assumed that he changed his mind. So Saturday morning, about 8:30 am I hear the phone ring (I was in bed of course) and I hear this guy's voice on my answering machine saying ".... I am on my way to Poughkeepsie now... I hope you can meet me there by noon...."!!! I was like ????? He's dang lucky I didn't get up to come to work!! Then I meet this guy, and he has NOTHING for Mickey - no leash, no food, no blanket, no bed, no toys... nothing but the travel crate he came in. It was sad.... and then he gave me the boo hoo story of how much he was going to miss Mickey and if there was some way he could keep him he would... blah blah blah... made me wanna vomit.... so I said to him.....

You don't need to worry about Mickey anymore... we will find him a safe and loving home with people who WANT him............ then I got in the car and left... jerk...

I promise pix of Prince and Mickey#2 will be coming soon

Oh Yay!  I was thinking about him last night and hoping you would hear someting soon!  I have brought it up a few times with hubby and he laughs and rolls his eyes at me.  Pictures will do him in for sure   I can't wait to see him and hear more about his personality.  It is so sad that he came with nothing of his own, they probably never bought him anything .  Thanks for keeping me posted.  Do you think he'd fit in well with 2 other boys?  Jack is very submissive and Jeter has Alpha right now. Oh boy, I have a few days off of work to really work on hubby now that I know you have him!!  He is the perfect size too

Mickey is very submissive. He actually submissively urinated the first time I corrected him when he marked in the house, but it's not a persistent problem. He is housebroken, and he and my other foster Prince have totally bonded already and they do the rattie play bow, wrestle thing constantly!!

He listens well. He's very smart. He's respectful of my alpha, Sandy... she went after him with a vengenace when he first got here... I've never seen her be so nasty to a foster before!! But now they're fine, other when he peeves her off... she tells him to knock it off and he does...

He was perfectly content hanging out on the couch with us Sunday afternoon, but loved chasing the ball and playing fetch.... he sleeps in bed with us just fine, but gets a bit testy if he's under the covers and someone steps on him... (most of my dogs are LOL) he is just so very precious... so very tiny!! It's been so long since I've had such a small rattie... my first Rat, Bandit, was about 11 pounds... he died from cancer almost 6 years ago, but I don't remember him being so tiny!!

Today's the first day I've left him alone. I'll let you know how he does tomorrow. He's crated with the rest of the boys... the owner said he was crate trained...

Did I leave anything out??

He sounds wonderful. He isn't having issues in general with marking though? I am sure he would fit in fine. The boys love everyone! The things I worry about are alot of marking issues and any aggressiveness with my kids, but it sounds as if that isn't the issue with him. He is smaller than Jeter too by the sounds of it! Thanks Sue!!

How old are your kids? The owner did say he was snappy with their 18 month old, but he also said that his daughter tortured him and played rough with him, so the kid probably deserved it...

I don't have kids so I can't say if he is good or not, but in my perception and with the way he acts, sometimes nervous and skittish, I wouldn't put him with toddlers under 4...

Marking isn't an issue - he did the first time he was in the house until I corrected him, and then it stopped. I expect it because I've had so many different dogs come and go, so I watch 'em until they do it and then correct and then it's usually over.

Aww, Sue.  That just may rule me out.    The boys are 4, my oldest is 7 and Brynn is 1 1/2.  She is very good with the dogs but she does like to play with them.  She is in no way rough and just an occasional hug is all, but if he won't tolerate that I am not sure then.  Most of the time she ignores them.  The boys have all learned how to be respectful of the dogs.  I don't know though, we may be out if you are thinking not under 4.

I can't be sure how'd he be, Sarah. He is skittish, but has not shown any aggression towards me - but the owner did say he nipped at his 18 month old when she grabbed at him (and I asked "do you mean mouthed her, cuz there's a big diff between mouthing (warning) and nipping (biting)) and the owner said mouthed. The owner also told me that he wanted to get rid of Mickey to PROTECT him from his daughter, because he was afraid that the daughter would hurt Mickey, so I really don't know.

Where exactly in Syracuse are you? We can meet in Utica one day (when the weather improves!!) and you can bring your family and we can see how it goes if you decide you are interested in adopting him. You can also bring your 2 dogs to see if they get along with Mickey too.

Is that something you'd be interested in doing?

That would be totally something we'd be interested in. Jack has snapped at the boys a few times before. In my mind that is normal. Not okay but normal. The kids have learned and are still learning about space and when they can and can't bother the dogs. I am okay with the dog being less tolerant, just not outright aggressive. Brynn is a girl and has always been very gentle with the boys from the start. I am in Chittenano, about 30 miles from Utica, so that is not far at all. Jeter is skittish also, barks at everyone he sees. At the petstore he barks and growls like he was a 100lb dog......but with the kids he is another dog and wonderful, so I guess you never know. Jeter is set to be neutered on April 1st also.

Let's come up with a date, then!    How is the first weekend in April for you?  (Sat/Sun, April 5/6)  I will probably work next weekend and the following weekend I have vet visits...
