I wake up around 6:30-7:00 am every morning. I feed the cat and then I put Holly's food down for her to eat. 1/2 cup dry food. She refuses to eat anything in the morning. She will eat her food around 5-6 pm. Then I pick up her bowl till the next morning, and repeat. She just wont eat, not even interested. Is this normal? Is this enough food for her for the day? She's very active and all muscle, not fat. I think she is skinny but hubby says she's fine. Anyone else go through this? I'm just worried she's not eating enough. I caught her a few months ago eating the cats food, thought that is the reason why she wasnt hungry in the morning. I have been sitting with the cat while she eats then I pick her bowl up, so I know its not that anymore. I just like to know if this is normal? Thank you |

she could just be one of those dogs that likes, or could get by with, eating once a day. I only feed my dogs once a day, around 6-7 pm and they have always been fine...all 9 of the dogs I've had in my life. my Lucy is on the skinny side too, not underweight, just skinny...most of the time she only eats 1/2 of her food...very rarely will she actually eat all her food. the only dog I fed twice a day was on meds that needed to be mixed in with food twice a day...even that old guy refused to eat in the mornings every now and then, and cooperated because I insisted (meds were for epilesy, so I could NOT let him get away with refusing to eat). if your girl continues to refuse to eat in the morning, I'd give her more food in the evening to make sure she gets enough to eat. |

i swear i have the only 2 dogs that dont want to eat!!!! we feed 1/2 cup each 1x a day... we give them a carrot or 2 in the morning... a king with alil PB and a carrot for the day... at 6pm we put down food... bryson will eat his... he is a pggy and is still sooo skinny!!!! but BRAELI will not eat... she picks... and picks slowly!!! she will only start to eat if bryson is eating or trying to get to her fod... so she eats to protect it... by 8-9pm she has only eaten 1/4 cup!!!! if she doesnt eat my wife will get her to eat by tricking her... or hand feeding and getting her to the bowl. |

If this is a grown dog then I would just feed her once in the evening. I have 2 s l o w eaters right now and they eat faster if not fed 2x a day. Also - I'd put the cat food up on high place that only the cat can get to....JMO |

I don't like eating in the morning either! Try feeding her double in the evening. I only feed once a day and it works well for me.

I swear Button didn't much want to eat EVER her first year! Serious! I was lucky if I could get her to stop playing long enough to eat a few kernels of kibble! When I started mixing in a little chicken broth, that helped, but not much, really. At about 12 months of age, when I put her on adult chow, she got more interested, so maybe she just didn't like the puppy chow. Whatever.
She does have a delicate stomach in the mornings and often goes right outside and eats grass first thing in the AM. I think her stomach has been empty too long and the acids bother her. Her evening meal is at 3:30, so that is a pretty long time to go without anything on her tummy. So I've started giving her TWO treats at bedtime and that seems to be helping with the random AM grass eating. |

Well by the sounds of it .......Holly isnt the only dog like this....glad to hear that. I do feel alittle better now. I put down one cup instead of 1/2 cup to see what happens tonight when she eats She is 11 months old now and I just thought she would be eating 2x's a day instead of once. I only give her a treat in the morning when she goes in her crate, and then when I let her out when I get home from work. THat is it for treats, so I know she's not filling up on them. Well I guess she is fine, so I can stop worrying about her eating habits..........thank you everyone for your messages. |

| I have just spotted this thread, as I am frustrated trying to make nora eat in the morning---maybe I will give her a treat and feel her at night--she seems to only want to eat after a day of excersise---at least the kibble--she will eat soft food anytime, but no one here seems to approve of soft-- |
