Here is a photo of Amos ear post surgery.  I never could get a clear on of the ear before hand because whenever I would try to take the photo he was squirming around trying to see what I was doing.  It's amazing what a little bit of anesthesia still left in a rattie can do.  He was so sweet last night, but boy was it funny watching him trying to walk around.  He kept all four legs splayed out to the side.  He didn't fall down though, so I thought he did good. Ear post surgery

The vet said that it wasn't necessary to put anything on it but that I could put antibiotic oint on it if I wanted. He is on oral antibiotics so it should be ok. I may just grease it with vaseline to keep it from drying out and beginning to itch. We've done some major wound healing with vaseline at the nursing home where I work. I really need to clean his ear because there is dry blood on it, but I don't wanna get his ear all stirred up right now. I'll probably wait until tomorrow then HOPEFULLY, he will let me spray bottle wet it with a weak baby shampoos solution. He doesn't act like it bothers him a bit. Thankfully

YUCK!!!!!!!
And Dang it all! Don't let anyone tell you that the ear doesn't have a good blood supply. It just ain't so! Amos just scratched his ear and got it bleeding, and it went everywhere! He was slinging his head side to side. I had blood all over my kitchen floor, on the living room carpet and on him before I could catch him and apply pressure. I held pressure for a while and it was still ooozing. The only thing I could think of to try to help clot it off was cornstarch. I filled the open hole with cornstarch and it stopped. (we have used that to stop bleeding in our parrots, toenails, blood feathers and such) He's feeling better and got one of his toys and started to do the "death shake", so I had to take it away from him. Now he thinks he's in trouble. Bless his heart. Maybe by tomorrow, it will be well enough that he can shake his toys.
