Well I went to my doctor today. We talked and he decided to send me to a Neurologist. I see him on the 7th. My doctor asked if I was ever on other medicine for depression/anxiety. I told him I used to be on Lexapro. He was going to put me on that but I said "I stopped it because it affected me in the bedroom". He decided to put me on welbutrin and said "It wont effect your sex life." He also said it might help me loose weight. He is such a nice doc. He really listens to you. He said "Don't worry Tabitha I'll take care of you".
He's concerned because they are getting more frequent and worse. When I first started getting them a shot of toradol always did the trick. Now they have to give me a shot or two of the heavy narcotic. Demerol, Dilaudid. So hopefully the brain doc will be able to figure out how to stop them. |

| Mine were caused by stress. That is when I got rid of the man that caused the stress and I have not had a bad one since. It has been 22 years and my husband now is a jewel. I don't miss the migranes, they were the ones where they give you shots that put you out for days, or so it felt like. |

| That is about how long mine lasted too. Does anyone else in your family get them. I found out years later my dad got stress related migranes too. When the doctors asked back then, I did not know so I said that nobody else got them. |

Nope. I asked. No one gets them. I have one question. The doctor told me to take it at night. But on the website it says to take it in the morning. Which should I do? I think the website for the medicine would be right. I'll take it in the morning like the website says and then call him on Monday and find out. Besides it's easier to take it the same time in the morning than it is taking it at night. It seems that there's not any bad side effects. Weight loss is, lack of appetite is two of the side effects. That's another reason he put me on it. He knows I want to lose weight. Hopefully this will help. Well I'm going to bed. Night all. |

| That is because most anti-anxiety/anti-depressants can cause insommnia. Morning is best. |

Actually, a neurologist was treating my migraines years ago with a tricyclic antidepressant known as Nortriptyline. It affects seratonin levels (low seratonin levels are thought to be a causal factor of depression as well as migraines). I is used as a "preventative" (not treat the migraine pain after you get one). It's most notorious two side effects are drowsiness and urine retention when asleep. It is taken at night 30 minutes before bedtime. Not only does it induce sleepiness and make you "sleep like a baby" all night long, but you don't have to get up in the middle of the night to go pee, either. Being a member of the "over 50 club", I can really appreciate both of these qualities! It's a very powerful medicine and doesn't mix well with MANY other meds and you must get doctor/pharmacy clearance to take any other meds with it (even over the counter meds!!).
Best of all though, is it got rid of my migraines within 3 months! You start on 10 mg and increase every week (max 100 mg) until you find the dose that stops the headaches for you personally. For me that was 60 mg. I took it for 2.5 years and was headache free almost the entire time! When I retired 7 years ago & moved to Temple, I then weaned myself off of it just as gradually as I had started on it. No more migraines (maybe 1 a year in the last 7 years?). No more meds!

| WOW! I'll have to remember that. My boss said that when he was a kid he used to get them. His dad would give him one of his pain pills and they would knock him out so he would sleep. He went to the doctor and he ended up flushing his sinuses with warm salt water. He hasn't got a headache since. I'll have to remember that. |

I was on an antidepressant for several years for the same reason...to help prevent migraines. I had fewer migraines, and the ones I did have were pretty mild, BUT I ended up gaining weight while on it. I don't mean to upset you, but watch yourself on Wellbutrin...both my mom and uncle were on it briefly...both had suicidal thoughts and horrible, horrible nightmares while on it. They were no doubt in the minorty, and I know that many people have been helped by this drug. It's been several years, and hopefully, they've reformulated it, but still...personally (with my family history with this drug), I'd think twice before taking it. That said, I really hope that this is finally able to get your migraines under control. |

Wellbutrin works well for some not so good for others. Years ago, I was put on it briefly to "help" get things going in the bedroom.(no libido, what so ever) I had a very mild eating disorder and with wellbutrin I had no hunger what so ever. At that time the doc was watching my weight closely and stopped the meds when I dropped a couple more pounds. Both my hubby and my daughter have suffered from migraines. Hubby found relief in Imitex injections and hasn't been bothered with migraines for years. My daughters' best control was on a seizure drug, Depakote. It has side effects that she didn't particularly like(hairloss, wt gain, and potential for birth defects if taken while pregnant) and she quit taking it. Her's are definately hormonally and stress triggered. If you can find your "trigger", that is half the battle. Then you work to control exposure to the "trigger". Hope you find some relief. |

| Thanks. I wish I could figure my trigger. Now I'm getting rebound headaches. I know I've taken more than six of Maxalt this month. Hopefully the days go quick until I see the neurologist. |
