He is not doing well at all. He's at home and my company is paying for hospice for him. In good spirits though....on plenty of painkillers, etc. He won't be with us much longer.....the cancer has completely spread to all over his body.

I feel like the most horrible person ever because I can't bring myself to go visit him; I've never known anyone termenally ill and wouldn't know what to say....I think that if I saw him I would just burst into tears. And yes....in a couple of weeks I will so regret not saying g'bye to him.

Don't know what to do........except to say again to love your loved-ones right now and at this moment.

Nat, TRUST me....I've just been through this with my Grandma. You NEED to go and say goodbye. I was concerned about what to say too, but it just comes too you when you are there. I am so thankful that I was able to say goodbye. It honestly made things easier for me. It didn't take the hurt away, but it is helping the healing.

Nat, try to bring yourself to go see him. A lot of people that did not come say bye to Josh, regret it now. It will bring him a little comfort to know how much you care.

I simply cannot encourage you enough to go and see him. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SAY GOODBYE. All you have to do is go and tell him that you are thinking of him and his family, and that you are thankful to have him in your life. I am a Gerontology student (study of aging) and that has led me to be involved with a lot of hospice and end of life care, and I know how hard it can be, but please do this for him, and for yourself. smile, be happy!

Nat -- You have to go. You don't have to actually say goodbye in words. He will know. And don't worry about crying. You won't be the only one. Also, know you won't be there alone. You'll have the support of all your rt.com friends.

I'm sorry about your friend Nat, hope you will decide to go see him, you don't have to say anything, just being there would be enough for him and his family.

It appears to me that you answered your own question, Nat.....

Your friend is in my thoughts and prayers, and you are too.  Even if you don't actually say "goodbye," that's what you're going to do.  Its not going to be easy, but you will be SO glad you did.  In 2001, I said goodbye to a neighbor who had been like a grandfather to me.  We went the night he died, just a few hours before, and all said goodbye to him.  I'm so glad we did.

I concur with what everyone else said.  Go.  You'll hate yourself if you don't.  And don't worry about what to say.  He knows the drill.  Just talk about what he wants to talk about.  He knows that most people don't know what to say, so just follow his lead. ..He will know what you're there for.

I'm so sorry to hear about your co-worker. If you can, it might help to go along with another co-worker. Y'all can give each other courage and support.

I so hope that you go Nat. You don't have to say ANYTHING. And it's okay to cry.
