Some of you may remember I posted in the health forum about Cowboy having a Bacterial infection in his skin.  Well you wanted photo's, so here they are.  I took a ton because Cowboy and Tinkerbelle were having some quality time!  In some pics, you can't even tell he has anything wrong.  But, when the sun hits it just right, it looks awful.  I'll start with the good pics.

Ok, I need to end on a good note!  It doesn't seem worse since he is on the meds, but I don't think it's better either.  Anyone think it looks like something other than bacterial.  Perhaps, mange????

Mary, He's on an anti-biotic, and a special shampoo for bacterial or fungal infections.  I'm just not convinced it's not mange and I'm worried about the others.  I still have Ace and Spoticus.  Spoticus shows no signs and I can only see skin on Ace on top of his head when he wrinkles his brow, but I think the hair was always thinner there.

hmm...Toa and all his littermates had the demodectic mange (apparently they get it from mama and its only contagious from her, not to humans or anything) but sarscoptic mange is a different story,
with Toa, it was mostly on his face and head....his blue hair actually, which the vet found to be weird....i am sorry im not more help...did they do a skin scraping?

They didn't do a skin scrape because she said it didn't look like demodectic mange....it does to me, but what do i know...she is the vet...Anyway,  did you notice it on Toa's paws?  She acted like we would be seeing it in different places if it was mange.  Also, I wonder if it's just harder to see on white hair.  I can't see anything on Spoticus.  Cowboy's fur is so black that it really shows up when the sun hits it and you can obviously notice his white skin shining under that black fur.  Maybe it was just more noticeable on Toa's blue than his white.

Jubilee also has some thin patches of hair. I've had her to the vet x 2 since getting her and her vet does not want to treat it unless it gets worse. I think that LeeLee looks much thinner than Cowboy. We will just monitor and see. If it gets worse then we will treat. Simple as that. Doesn't seem to be bothering her in the least.

I just did a google search for "mange" and found this interesting site regarding sarcoptic mange, which is the more common of the two.

Check out the Pinna-Pedal Reflex test. I have never heard of such a thing buy it might give you a better idea what you are dealing with.

The only way to tell for sure is a skin scraping.

he is just as handsome as ever!!! I am glad you are treating him I have a Standard Poodle that I groom who had an skin infection like that and they did not treat it right away and now she will always have the little bald spots. I just keep her hair a little longer to cover them up. I would think cause you got right on it he should be just fine and his hair should come back. They did not catch it soon enough because it was winter and they let her hair get way too long!!! But I still think he is handsome!!!

That looks like what pepper has. Her's is just dermatitis. She got into an area that I thought had poison ivy, and I had to bathe her in dish soap to get rid of the oil. Well the dish soap stripped all the protective stuff from her skin and fur, and she got it. Another dog at the dog park had been bathing her dog every day for a while cuz she just got so dirty at the park, and she's got the same patches as pepper does. My vet did a skin scraping, and didn't find anything. Your vet was right though. Mange usually shows up first on the limbs and head, but she should have still done a scraping to be sure.

Poor Cowboy. With Cameo's mange you could easily see it in the white because only her pink skin was showing. What I see with Cowboy doesn't look like Cameo did with the mange. I hope whatever it is the meds take care of it. Give the boys and Tinkerbelle hugs and love from Nala Belle and all the pack.
