A family found this dog dumped byt he side of the road. They tried to find the owner but had no luck now they are keeping him. But they want to know what breed he is. I think rattie/chihuahua. Here's what they think:

"He is between 5 and 7 pounds and 10 inches tall at the withers. We believe he is around 8 months because his teeth are still growing in, in the back of his mouth. I know the breed standard says they should be at least 50% white and we think that could be the reason he was dumped? We don't think he is a rat terrier because his nose is more slanted and he seems to fit the measurements for a TFT?"

Anyone have an educated guess or know for sure?

I'm thinking more Chi. He kinda has those buggy eyes. He's cute though what ever he is and I hope that he has found himself a good home.

My answer is chi/rat with maybe some Corgi in the family tree.  If this was a 100% rattie the ears wouldn't be so far on the side of his head.  He's a cute lil something.

He does not appear to have the apple head of a chi, and his feet are a little big. Probably Chi/Rattie mix. He has the ticking like a rattie.

I bet he can perk those ears right up, when he is not so scared.

He looks really healthy, to have been abandoned. He is so shiney. How long have they had him? I guess they checked for a microchip, huh?I just do not understand, how somebody could just dump a cute little guy like him, on the side of a road, knowing he could get run over...sad.

I cannot answer how long they've had him. But I will give them the link to this thread and perhaps they will answers themselves. My guess is that they already would have checked for a microchip.

Hello,

I am the person that found Guido. He had no collar or chip. His ears do normally stand straight up, but he was very scared of the camera. Here is the long and sad story in case anyone is interested.

He could be a mix. He does have the black spots on his belly. I found him just houses from where I live while I was driving home from work. He was lying in the gutter of my residential street along with an older female pug. It was almost midnight and after I saw them I pulled over and was able to get them into my car. I did look around but I saw no one. A few days later I took them in to check for microchips. It turned out that the pug, Kasa, did and I was able to reunite her with her "long lost" family. She was actually stolen three years ago by the man's x wife and her boyfriend and Kasa was pregnant at that time. Also, she was stolen with two other pugs one male and one other female. He assumed they were all dead and still hasn't heard news of the others. He said his x and her BF are in jail and didn't really tell me more about that. I put up fliers and posted him on several websites and nothing. I think whoever had them dumped them for one reason or another. Maybe the pug stopped producing and I am not even sure if he is old enough to breed, but he sure wanted to with the pug. She seemed like she was coming out of heat and I hope he didn't "do the deed" before I found them. I warned the lost family and asked them to let me know if she did get pregnant.
So now both of the dogs we have were strays. He is still trying to like his new bigger pit mix sister. She is very patient and tolerant of him.

Oh, we have had him since August 20th, going on two weeks. Well, it was barely the 20th since I found them around midnight or so.

Cool! I am glad you guys decided to share your story. I hope you will stick around, and become part of our rattie family. That is so neat, about the chip leading to the owners of the pug. Maybe they were planning to breed her with a beagle, to make "Puggles", which are the new designer mutt, of late.

So, everyone seems to think rat chi? Does his eyes look a lot more buggier then most rat or toy fox terrier? I guess I just figured he was a pure breed because I found him with a pure breed pug. Does anyone know how to determine his age by looking at his teeth? At what age do their teeth come in all the way. And at what age are they {ratties, TFTs or chis} usually full grown.

You could take him to your vet and I'm sure he or she would be able to figure out how old he is.

Here's some more pics and I'd say for a rattie -mini or standard it takes about a year to get full grown. Deckers I'm not sure about as they are bigger.

what a cutie! I'd say rattie-chi mix too, but I don't know too much about the smaller guys. my ratties (deckers) reached full size (height) at about 8 months, and reached adult weight at about a yr old.

are you going to keep him or are you looking for a new home for him?

Thanks to everyone that commented. Thanks Pam for posting to pics for me.
When I get him neutered I will be sure to ask the vet her/his opinion, but for now I will assume he is a rat~chi. We look forward to a lot of good times with Guido. He seems a little dog agressive and isn't really ready to be friends with his big sister. Her name is Punky and she is a Pit Pointer mix, we think, and weighs about 45 pounds. Anyone have any suggestions, or do you think he will eventually get along with her? Or is it likely that he will always be a little snarly towards her?

This is my toy  rattie Prince when he was around 9 months old. Hes now 20 months old and hes still the same size now as he was back then.

Awe, he is so cute!  He looks all rattie to me....his eyes kinda look like a chi but I'm not a good judge on these things.....he does look alot like my Dink....same coloring......Dink is very sleek and muscular and light as a feather and I could've sworn he was a toy (10 lbs & under) till I took him to the vet a couple months ago and they said he was 12 lbs which makes him a mini.  Anyways, I'm so glad to hear that the sweet baby has a new home now.  Good luck and take care and keep us posted on him.
