I've seen several ladies with a new style of manicure this spring...clear on the bottom part of the nail and a strip of color on the "white" part of the nail.  It's kind of like a french manicure.

I have a hard time keeping the fingernail polish in the lines, much less trying to draw an even strip of color across the top of my nail!

I've seen that...one woman had neon pink where the white should be...I don't get it. To me, it looks stupid, but to each his own.

Don't know. Keep mine short so I can't play the piano. Hate the sound of nails clicking on the keys. My Mom's long nails do that all the time. When I had artificial nails, they, too, clicked on the keys. So off they came.

LOL Melody looks like you stuttered more than stumbled!

Mom and I do a monthly girls day out and get pedicure/manicure done. I'm not much of a girly girl but she loves it and it's nice bonding time. I always get my toes done in bright hot colors (fuschia, red, purple, something dramatic). The weird color french style strips are just odd looking to me.

hey gwacie just noticed finally understand my forums!!! So I go to get a manicure and it looks good for about 6 hours---heheh Nora is at a point no where I am constantly using my fingers for something destrutive, like cleaning up after her outside and crumbling treats for her. I just cut em short for now--and my hair ahah--well I did get a convenient cut-- I tell you I understand why my mother lost it after I was born---it seems that I was somewhat like a terrier as a child))

I am a biter from back in the day LOL, nervous habit that i never could shake. \

I had acrylics once, I ended up taking plyers to pull them off by the end of the first day. My nails have never been the same and it hurt so bad!!

I've seen that style of nail for awhile now and I think it looks weird. I do like a traditional french manicure but with three kids, dog and cat.....yeah right.

i am a terrible nail biter!!! I have had acryllics on for YEARS with a regular french manicure. I have a secret thought...I have been wearing press ons this month, Kiss brand. they are only 7 bucks a pack and they last at least 10 days....it may be my new "fake nail" of choice!!!
I think i would wear the colored manicure on top...but i am too impatient to wait to any polish to dry! LOL

I wear fake toe nails!    My real toes are so ugly.  I even polish them and let them dry over night and then glue them on with nail glue.  They last quite a while and I always get lots of compliments on them.  When I was in the hospital, I had several nurses say I had such pretty toe nails and they couldn't believe it when I told them they were fake.

Come to think of it I AM A TERRIER!!! My father always wished I had a child like myself--can't escape destiny I guess--One day I will go into all the destructive terrier stuff I did--heeh

Back to nails, I had the fakes many times I tried to remove them too--I should proably live on a farm, not in the city--I like the natural life by far)

I have not seen this yet, I am one to keep my nails short. I never use nail polish but not that I don't like it I just don't use it. But I always think those weird fashions like that are just crazy. But I am old fashion, don't get me started on the low riding pants that show the under pants or G strings... grrr!!! LOL I can't understand how people can wear that out in public. It is like saying HELLO I wear THIS... LOL

I just stick with the white/french manicure ones

That sounds ugly. Yeah I don't do anything with my nails. Last time I painted them I regretted it lol

The best way to go is just by neutral tones for toes and nails; I'm not into the manicure/pedi thing either.

I need the fake toenails. I had to have my big toe nail removed and it is really ugly without the nail. Where do you get them?

Mary, here is a couple of pointers I have found really help.  First of all, I buy the toe nails that you have to polish (the brand I use because it has all different kinds of sizes to select from is "Kiss 96 Full Cover Toe Nails," (costs about $6.00 for a box of 96 assorted sizes and comes with regular bottle super glue, which you will see that I don't use).    Usually Walmart or one of the drug stores like CVS carries them.

It is important to rough up the back of the toe nails with something that can kind of scratch the underside (like a metal file with a point, etc.), also I rough up my own toe nails with an emory board...something that when you put glue on it neither surface will be slick.  The toe nails will come with a tab so you can easily hold the nail when you put it on.  After the glue dries and the nail is on good, you can use toe nail clippers and gently clip the tabs.  I have found the best kind of glue to use and the easiest to manipulate is brush on nail glue such as "Fing'rs Brush-on Nail Glue."  It states it has up to 10 day wear...I've found it to be longer.

I also polish my fake toe nails and let them dry over night before I glue them on to my toe nails.  I start with a regular base coat, followed by two coats of nail polish and then finish it with a top coat.  Makes the toe nails last really long.  Another thing I have discovered is that if you use clothes pins and pin them on the tabs before you start polishing, then it keeps them up off a surface and they are much easier to handle when you start polishing.  I do remove them after they are thorougly dry and just hold the tabs with my fingers to put them on my toes.  Another hint...make sure your own toe nails are dry and do not have anything oily on them before you start.  This is so your glue sticks really good.  I also brush the glue on my own toe nail and also on the back of the fake toe nail.  It adheres really well that way.

Anyway, for what it's worth.  Good luck on your toe nails!

P.S.  Don't panic if one happens to come off..hopefully you will find it.  I always carry a spare bottle of Brush on Glue in my purse.  Once in a while my husband will find one on the floor and tell me, "You blew a nail."    Or we all go looking for it in the house.  You can usually find it where you have hit your toe on something.
