I have a puppy that I will be keeping from my momma dog, and I would like to know what are the advantages or disadvantages of getting him fixed, I have heard that I shouldn't do it untill he is one year old, not sure why, I just don't want him to start marking his territory, like his dad! When do they start marking his territory? I got dad when he was 6 months old and he stared doing it to my girl dog, on her back. But he came from a back yard breeder that kept him outside all day with no training, maybe that is why, help please.

IMO, he should be neutered. Many people advocate early neutering as young as six-eight weeks. Regardless, I'd advise having him "done" prior to 6-7 months of age.

Neuter him. And do you have mom and dad? Are you planning on breeding them again? Honestly, and not to sound harsh, but if you have to ask a question such as this you really are not ready to be breeding dogs. You can neuter them at any age, the sooner the better.

I also agree to having him neutered. Spanky will be done as soon as he is 5 months(in March) as I do NOT intend to use him for breeding.

THE MEANING OF RESCUE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

If you want to avoid marking (or attempt to) Before 6 months. Sometimes they start marking anyways, no matter how early they are fixed. It is really a training issue with males. But get it done before 6 months, or whenever your vet best reccomends it for him (I don't know his size or maturirty level).

I agree with the others, get him neutered as soon as your vet will do it.

Neutered is the best way to go. I think it can be done as early as 9 weeks of age. My male was fixed at 6 months and I have never had any problems with him. The breeder I purchased him from said that if I wasn't going to breed him to get him fixed ASAP because they are prone to prostate cancer if not fixed or breed. Also I have to agree with Sarah, and like her I don't want to sound harsh but hon, breeders don't have to ask such questions. Instead of breeding you may want to consider fixing all your dogs and if you want more dogs then there are many ratties out there looking for a forever home and ready to be adopted right now. Won't you be kind and fix your babies to prevent health problems later in life?

6 months (loses all baby teeth) is usual. a new trend (maybe not so new) is early neutering/spaying...
younger dogs heal faster so that is a perk to an early neutering... also with lack of hormones, the bones
continue to grow. so they get to be a very slight bit taller/longer. the hormones from "untouched" dogs
actually helps the bones form faster.

unless you are a breeder and plan on bredding him, have him "taken care of".

my braeli is an early spay... bryson will wait until he is at least 6 mos. in case he gets alligator teeth.
