 Rattie

As a first time rattie (and dog period) dad, I had no clue dogs had nightmares. I recently started leaving my bedroom door open at night so Fred can come and go as he pleases. So, the other night I hear long growls followed by a single loud bark. Again, long growl, single loud bark and this repeated itself several times. I get confused thinking I might just be dreaming myself, and then realize that Fred must be in the room. The reason I questioned whether I was dreaming or not, is that Fred is trained not to bark, therefore he has not barked or growled a single time in about 8 months.
Anyway, I look towards the foot of the bed and see Fred, belly-up-legs-stretched-rigid-eyes-closed-out-for-the-count ASLEEP. So he is sleeping yet barking and growling on my bed. I thought it was the weirdest thing ever, until the next day I did a google search about dog nightmares and dreams and found out it is common.
I do have to admit, it did freak me out a little that night So any other stories about rattie nightmares out there?? |

LOVE the pic of Fred on the computer! I have had dogs all my life and they all have dreams/nightmares. Whimpers, growls, barks, feet moving as though running, baring teeth, you name it. Totally normal or I have had many a strange dog. |

| Bob sometimes cries and yips in his sleep. He usually stops when I pet him. He's also "run" in his sleep. |

Running, whimpering, growling, barking...all normal "dreaming" for dogs. I've had dogs all my life and never thought for a moment that this was strange behavior. Whenever they get really excited while sleeping, all I have to do is put my hand on them and they usually calm down...or wake up looking a little confused. |

| It is quite a spectacle when dogs have their dreams. You'll see their little legs move and hear the growls, whimpers or whatever else. Sometimes if Mya is really getting into it, I will pet her and she'll stop. |

Hey another Fred!! LOL, love the name
Fred and Alice both dream run, it's so funny, they lay on their sides and their little paws are going to town. I have no idea what they are chasing or if they ever catch it but they run and run and run!! |

doggie dreams can be cute and frightening... my bryson has lil barks, growls and whimpers... he moves around... its cute!!! my parents have a shih tzu who seemed to have some serious nightmares!!! it was scary to watch and listen too!!! couldn't wake her... we were told never to wake a dog up from their dreams... i guess not to scare them. but a hand on the side or belly would ease it and wake them calmly! |
