Hi! I recently just got a rattie. Her name is Macie she is now 10 months, but we got her at 7 months. She seems to be going bald on her bottom half I guess you could say. I think it's just the warm weather and she is shedding but I wanted to make sure I'm not crazy. Oh! And she is getting more spots coming through! Is this normal? Is that something that comes with age?
I am still having a few problems with her pooping in the house. I understand this is normal....however she knows that she is wrong because when I wake up and walk out in the living room and she went, she runs into the bedroom under the bed to hide! I know that I should be having her sleep in the crate until I can get this broken, but honestly I love her sleeping with us in the bed! She always has to be in the curve of us and under the covers! She will actually wake us up to open the blankets up to get under them with us!!! Its so adorable!!!! Does anyone have any other ideas other than crating her at night?
I love that she was so easy to train and is playful at the perfect time and others she just loves to cuddle on the couch with us under the blankets of course! Does anyone have any idea why if I look at her sometimes she will whine? Is she actually scared of me!? Or is it just the look I give her, and she can sense my mood? She does not act scared at all, but she recently just started this whining at sight. And it is only when I stare at her for a period of time, but it weirds me out sometimes....I don't want her scared of me! |

welcome! i cant answer all of those questions for you but im sure that someone on here can tell you. but i can tell you from what others have told me, all the black spots ratties get is a rattie trait, perfectly normal. its called ticking and its similar freckles are to us, and mostly comes rom sun exposure. and about crating at night, ive heard that trainers suggest not having them sleep with you but no one follows that and most do have them sleep with them. it is best to have her sleep in the crate unlill she is totally house trained and then letting her sleep in your bed is ok. especially if in the morning you wake up to a surprise. good luck to you and youre rattie, im sure other people can help you more than i can ~Erin |

that is her TALKING! to you!!! its a good thing! she should do this at night IN BED if she want's to go out! so just listen! sometimes they whine to go out and LOOK around ,but be prepared! sometimes they do BOTH! so if you don't want to put up with this PUT HER IN HER CRATE! in another ROOM! as for the Bald thing make sure she is not infested w/flea's she will rub her NEITHER REGIONS Off on the rug! If no fleas'...Food? Allergy? HOW bad is it? RED? or just BALD? |

I have nora about 5 weeks now and she is very young about 3.7 months. I have her sleep in the crate, but after her morning walk my husband puts her in the bed as I sleep later as a treat for us. I love the crate, i would be crazy with out one. She is not totally housebroken, but if I use the crate religiously she will go outside all the time. It seems that if I get a surprise phone call as I am getting ready to take her, she will make right in front of me--I do not know if it is editorial or what any way Prolonged eye contact might spook her just a bit--but I think the whines are cute--If she really wants something badly like water, she will give a short loud bark-- It is very hard to resist sleeping with these rats--the only reason I do not do it everynight is that I have some allergies and have to be carefull. good luck with all your rattie issues Oh re balding--is she blue down there? I have a blue girl and she is alright now, but I am told that blues can be more prone to balding, but not ususally that young Melody |

Dashiell will be three in October and we haven't spent 24 hours apart since I brought him home at eight weeks. I also spent time with his parents before he was born and with him and his litter mates when they were too little to take home. He is spoiled rotten in that he is a person. He sleeps in my bed and it seems I am the one who suffers separation anxiety when he leaves the bed.
Your rat is going bald on the underside? Dashiell has thin, very sleek, hair on his undercarriage. But it is definitely fur.
