a pitbull jumped my fenced today and attacked Max i rushed him to the vet but the vet said he will be fine, but i'm not so sure. Max has been heavy all day and he has not eaten or drank since 11 am. he gets up and walks and everything. does anyone have any signs i should look out for? i mean i don't want him to pass away on me or anything and the vet said he should be fine. i guess i'm just worried. he's also been sleeping alot

That's awful!  It sounds like Max is resting... having a pitbull come at you is traumatizing for anyone! The vet say's he'll be fine... is Max hurt or wounded?  Does he seem to be in pain if you pick him up (like broken rib or whatnot)? And what's going on with this pitbull?

Surely the vet checked him out good. He's probably just worn out from all the trauma.
Myself and Bailey have been through an attack before which she was hospitalized and had two surgeries so I know how you are feeling. Let us know how he is doing.

the owners of the pitbull only were given a warning and has to keep the dog tied when outside no other action was takin and i was furious seriously it jumped My fence and attacked my dog. he doesn't yelped in pain anymore when i pick him up but he's breathing really heavy and i have the ac on. he won't eat or drink. and now he won't come to me when called but he will wag his tail. when i approach him. anyways the pitbull had him by the throat and was shaking him like a rag doll, then he went after his mid section. a neigbor came over and helped me get the pitbull off of Max and thats when i rushed him to the vet

Did the vet do x-rays? Does he have any wounds.

sounds like maybe a little shocky. Watch that his gums stay pink..if they turn white GO TO VETS NOW. Let him rest and he should feel better if not in a few hours then by AM. He might be a little shy for a the next few days because of the attack, but that SHOULD pass also. Good luck and please keep us updated!

his gums were really white at 10 am when this happened. his gums are pink now but i'm worried about him not eating or drinking all day. he did eat and drink at 8 am but not since, and i'm worried about his heavy breathing. i know h's going to be shy. he's acting like it now, but i'll be patient with him. thanks for all the advice everyone i appreciate it

sometimes if you give them a cool wet wash cloth they'll lick it. Not eating is not as bad as not drinking but he'll be fine for a few more hours. heavy breathing is a sign of shock and of extreme nervousness both can be resloved but rest and quiet. I'd like to be able to tell you he will be alright and the vets thinks so, but if I was in your spot I would no way be assured of that either, so keep a watch and we will send positive thoughts your way.

Do you have a dropper that you could put some gatorade on and try to get him to drink that? As Cat said, watch his gums and don't let him dehydrate (pinch skin and if it doesn't go back down, but stays pinched up, he is dehydrated). He is traumatized, but you don't want him in shock. Keep an eye on him and if you see the signs Cat explained, yes! get him to the vet.

Just reading this also. How terrible. If this is his first ouchy, he could be a bit traumatized. Hold him close and call the vet in the morning if you have any questions or concerns. Poor baby...

Poor baby--it is infuriating that the other dog owners are not held responsible--they should at least be fined a major amount of cash. I am sorry your doggie had to go through this -- such a cutie-- keep in touch

I hope the police told them that they are responsible for all your vet bills. I know when Bailey was attacked the police told the owner that and they paid for everything.

Poor little baby and rotten pit owner (I say owner cause I do know some nice ones) have the owners of the pit asked about his condition??  I said a little prayer for Max I hope he is feeling better!!!  I hope you are doing as well as can be expected, my prayer went for you too!!   I can not even imagine what I would be feeling had it been Ivy.  So sorry

How is your baby doing this morning?  Did you take him back to the vet?

I agree with he previous posters who said that the owners of the pitbull should pay for your little one's vet bills.

I'm so sorry this happened to your baby.
So what happens when the pit slips out of his tie out? Are the owner going to get a warning again? Most people simply shouldn't own a dog like that...not because they're dangerous to people but because they are extremely to other dogs.

I don't know the laws, but when Bailey was attacked, the police told the owners that if it happened again the dogs would be put down. Also the health department was contacted, I think because I had cuts on my arms or either they just do that normally.
Also I saw a show on Animal Planet where a dog killed a chihuahua and they had a trial and the judge told the owners the same thing about putting that dog down if it happened again.

I am so sorry to hear this. I would be throwing some chocolate bars filled with AntiFreeze over to that pit bull for sure, but that's just me. I hope Max is okay. I would press charges as well. To come into your yard is completely unacceptable not to mention that is an aggressive dog, hope no kids walk by either!!

Poor little Max. Hope he is doing better today. I would certainly be sending my vet bills to the owner of the pitt.
