Ive been trying to wrap pixel in baby blankets because if i dont i end upw ith little white hairs all over. What should I be doing (brushing?) what kind of brush etc. I thought i heard that diet will help too? she is on science diet right now (i know i know eek) but as soon as its gone im not buying it again and we didnt buy a huge bag either. I didnt discover until after we got it that it was no good. I will buy something better next time but Ive spent enough money on her already that I really dont want to just chuck it and waste it right now( i think hubby will hurt me at this point).

What kind of brush or groomer do you guys use? Is there a good shampoo I should use on her? help!

I'll be curious to see what everybody says too b/c I am of the opinion that you're not going to stop them from shedding so I'm not going to try to stop it.  Dink's really not that bad either.  I don't notice it all over my house, we vacuum every couple days and I have blankets on my couches and he's not allowed in bed with us.  The only time I really see shedded fur is when I pick him when I'm wearing black other than that it's really not a problem.

Don't wait until your current dog food is gone because it takes a week or two to switch a dog from one food to another.  You gradually add the new food the the old food--25% new with 75% old food for several days.  Then go 50/50 for several days. After that try 75% new with 25% old and finally 100% new.  If there are any problems with not eating or loose poos go back a step for a few more days.

As for brushing I realy love the Zoom Groom by Kong.  It does a great job on getting all the loose hair.

Ok thanks for the info. Right now I hold my baby a lot because she is still a puppy, any other color except for white you can see im covered in doggie hairs lol. I guess I need to keep a lint roller downstairs and upstairs.

I will see about getting the new food this weekend. Honestly Im hoping my little girl has an easier time pooing when she switches to the new food. It just seems to me like she has a hard time. A friend of mine makes fun of her little poo hole too saying it always looks like she has to go You can see it start peaking out and she runs backwards in circles in a crouch until if finally starts coming. I dont know if thats normal but it doesnt look like she is having fun.

Zoom groom is great but a regular rubber kitchen gloves work as well on these short hairs.  I am a groomer and when I groom this kind of coat I use a shedding blade (that is the metal round thing on a handle) then I use the zoom groom and then the rubber glove and then for the final buff a towel.  I like to keep these people happy and get all the hair out that I can cause they are just such easy little dogs to groom that method works of any  of the smooth coats (pug, rattie, beagle, jrt ect.

The Zoom Groom is great. Also give her fish oil and vitamin E. Make sure the fish oil is from fish that doesn't have mercury in them. (sardine, anchovies). I order mine from Seapet online. They get 1 tsp every morning in their food. It REALLY helps.

I agree with the Fish Oils for Omega's and Vit E. I also use seapet. Nothing like that and a high quality food to do the job best. Those sticky rollers work good for getting hair off of you.

its funny..i guess it depends on the coat and genetic mix of the ratties... braeli has soft, thick hair... bryson has coarser thinner hair... BRAELI SHEDS like crazy! BRYSON DOESNT SHED!!!! we brush them 1x every 2 weeks... bath 1x every 2 mos... both eat canidae, both have shiny healthy coats.... just the way she is built... and she is def shedding more now that its hot too!

I went to my locally owned pet store last night and talked to them about the dog food. Ended up getting canidae all stages. She said that if you are feeding quality food no need for the vitamins because they will get them from the food. She really seemed to know her stuff I was REALLY impressed. Never would you get service like that from a chain store. Also pixel got her first bully stick last night... i think she is in love!

I use one of those grooming gloves. THey really do pull out a lot of the loose hair! I am definitely going to try out the fish oil! Summer's here and they are shedddddddddding!!! My sister lives in an apartment so her rattie is inside all the time. She bathes him a lot - probably far more than she should! but he doesn't shed much at all and his skin is just fine. I am thinking about starting to bathe the girls more but I bet just a rubdown with a towel every week would help a lot too =)

Miss Sally sheds a good bit too. I have started brushing her every night (she actually likes it) and that seems to help. The shedding doesn't really bother me too much. I just vaccum off the couch and chairs she jumps up in and I change sheets/bedding on my bed every week without fail to get the dog hair out. Sometimes she sleeps curled up behind my legs in bed and sometimes she sleeps on her big doggie pillow/bed at the end of our bed. Her choice. I have noticed if she is cold, she wants to be under my blankets and if it's warm she sleeps in her own little bed.

Ok, so I found the fish oil with vitamin E - how do you guys give it to your ratties? It would be one thing if I had one but I have two. Do you put it in their food bowl with daily feeding or some other creative idea? Thanks for your help!

My Amos is the most shedding dog that I have ever had. And it seems to me it's his white hairs that shed more than his black hairs. We vacuum up a whole rabbit every day. lol Forget Dust Bunnies, we have the whole hare! He should be BALD! Smooshy sheds too but not as much as Amos. They are both eating the Canidae All Life Stages. I do use a rubber pet mitt about every other day. I may look into the fish oil. lol Hubby is taking it, and he doesn't shed too bad. lol

I also recommend the Zoom Groom!!  It works great!!  Just make sure you do it outside cuz it really gets rid of all the excess fur....... I love it!
