I have both and love them both equally as well. They are so different but in the best way possible. Fred never marks or humps, he is a true little gentleman and Alice is as crazy as they come but constantly makes us laugh. Personality is so much more important than sex, but in our case we went with whoever needed rescued when we looked. The rescue had all males which is how we got Fred and Alice we pulled from a kill shelter, sex did not matter one bit.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Thanks for the info!  I didn't know anything about the Deckers at first and didn't know what to think when Miss Libbs kept growing and growing and growing.......  She was definitely the biggest of her litter.  She is such a crazy pup and we love her so much.  Here are some pics but none very good of that cute Decker look face.

If someone could delete those! I read now that it has to be in a photo folder. Ah well, live and learn. I posted a pic of Liberty in the member profiles area.... http://www.rat-terrier.com/Home/tabid/37/forumid/11/postid/12499/view/topic/tpage/9/Default.aspx

I have a male and a female and just like everyone has said, personality really isn't dependent on sex. I do think that in general females tend to lead the household...at least that is what my female does. She is full of personality, and so loving, but she was also harder to train and she's more aloof than my male. My little boy is shy, obedient, and attached to my hip. He never marked until we moved, and i've found that if a male is marking, its usually because of a behavioral issue, not just because he's a male. I really love how my male dog needs me so much. Like someone else mentioned, neutered male dogs seem to be extremely loyal. I love that my female is independent, though too. Both are great, its definately the personality that matters, though.

Sam is the only dog I have had. He doesn't mark, outside or inside. We do see the 'lipstick' on occasion, by very rarely. And he pees like a girl, which is...odd. But that's just his personality.

This is what I found.....

Lipstick is known to have been used around 5000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia, when semi-precious jewels were crushed and applied to the lips and occasionally around the eyes. Women in the ancient Indus Valley Civilization applied lipstick to their lips for face decoration.Ώ] Ancient Egyptians extracted purplish-red dye from fucus-algin, 0.01% iodine, and some bromine mannite, which resulted in serious illness. Cleopatra had her lipstick made from crushed carmine beetles, which gave a deep red pigment, and ants for a base. Lipsticks with shimmering effects were initially made using a substance found in fish scales called pearlescence.ΐ]

Lipstick started to gain popularity in the 16th century, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, who made piercing red lips and bright white faces a fashion statement. By that time, lipstick was made from a blend of beeswax and red stains from plants.

During the Second World War, lipstick gained popularity as a result of its use in the movie industry, and it became commonplace for women to apply makeup, or "put their face on".

As with most other types of makeup, lipstick is typically, but not exclusively, worn by women. It is usually not worn until a female reaches adolescence or adulthood. Male lipstick, especially as used in theater, is sometimes called manstick.
