Since this has been coming up more often when trying to place ratties in homes that are a long distance from where they are curently, I thought it might be helpful to make a thread with some links to various airlines' pet travel information.

CONTINENTAL AIRLINES:

NORTHWEST AIRLINES:

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES:

*Does not accept animals for travel in any capacity, other than certified assistance animals*

UNITED AIRLINES:

U.S. AIRWAYS:

Pets in Cargo Compartment

Our hub cities of Phoenix and Las Vegas have extreme temperatures that regularly exceed 100 degrees. For the safety of your pet, US Airways does not accept any animals in its cargo compartments.

Exception cities: US Airways accepts dogs, domestic cats and birds as checked baggage on non-stop US Airways Shuttle flights in the BOS/DCA/LGA markets only.

Tracey,

I work for an airline and if needed I can transport one small rat terrier at no cost.  The dog would have to fit in a carrier under the seat.  I would travel with the dog to meet the foster parents or new owners.  My closest airport is Charlotte Douglas.
