Hello All,

I have two rat terriers that need a new home.  I'm posting them here in the breeders forum because they are both unaltered dogs.  The reason they need a new home is that they have started killing the bantam chickens I keep around my house for bug control.  I would like to stress for those of you who don't live in the country, that a dog who kills chickens is not an overly aggressive or mean dog, just a dog who shouldn't be around chickens!  I am fond of these little doggies, but I can't have stock killers.  Here is a brief description of each dog:

Dobby: Is a red sable between 10 and 14 lbs I think, I havn't weighed him in a while, type A.  Very energetic, alpha dog, tough as nails and fearless, He would make someone a fantastic agility dog, he's a little stubborn and hard headed, needs an owner who is firm and is experienced with dogs, and will give him lots of exercise.

Luna: Is a small Teddy Roosevelt, about 10-11 lbs, black-tri, she is very sweet, she was quite timid and submissive when she came to us as a pup, she's come a long way since then but she still needs gentleness when you work with her, quite the opposite of Dobby.

They currently eat Canidae dog food and are very healthy, Luna is unaltered and has never had pups.  They were born last June/July so are just over a year old.  They are used to larger dogs (two Aussies) and children.  They live outside in a farm environment.  I don't mind sending them to a similar place, but unless they have bigger furrier dogs to snuggle with they would need to be let inside.

Please note: These dogs were born outside, and have never been inside.  THEY WOULD NEED TO BE HOUSETRAINED.

I would like $75 for each or if sold together (which is my preference) $100 for both.  The main reason I have for asking money for them is that I feel that if you pay money for something you value it more.  I paid much more for them as pups.

Please feel free to ask any questions or post this to another forum if that would be better.

Where are you and do you have pictures you can post of them? You might want to post this in the Rescue Forum as it really isn't a breeder issue/question. Why were they never altered?

Oops, sorry,

I'm in Northern CA, about 2 hrs away from Sacramento, a little town called Oregon House.

They were not altered as I was considering breeding them.  Luna is a funny looking little thing funny earset, makes her look like a bat.  She probably should be spayed.  Dobby is a handsome devil that would make someone a good stud dog I think.  If I were keeping them I would probably alter them at this point.  I would also add that my efforts to dissuade them from killing my chickens were not successfull, Dobby is the worst of the two, Luna may not have gotten into it if he hadn't started.  I'm not willing to use extreme methods to get them to stop.  Some dogs just kill chickens and I'm not willing to break thier spirit to stop them.

I will try to post pictures in the next couple of days...and post this to the other forum I just wanted to get it out there and start the ball rolling as it were...

I have referred your post on another board to a lady looking for a rat terrier in Ca.

Good luck
