Nora's recent post about her friends' tragic loss of their dogs in a fire has served as a reminder that there are some things we can do to help protect our pets, though nothing can be 100%, being prepared can help.

Below are some links to sites with window decal stickers that will alert responding rescue personnel that there are pets inside the home. This will allow these responders to make every safe effort to get them out.

When searching, I also came across this helpful bit of information...one of the first places a firefighter will go is to the outside electrical box to cut the power to your home - this is a good place to put a sticker (in addition to others) as it will be seen early!

http://www.lucysdoghouse.net/petalert.html (2 - 4X5 in. red alert stickers for $4.99)

http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pets_rescuesticker (FREE sticker from the ASPCA)

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3307+12891+1232&pcatid=1232 (4 - 7X5 in. decals for $4.99)

I am sure you can find many other sites with available decals by doing your own search.

On a side note, I'm ordering one that's large enough for me to note on the decal that one dog is in a crate so they are aware this dog cannot get out on its own.

Thanks, Tracy.  I just ordered the safety kit from ASPCA.  I don't have any decals at all!  Glad I found your post.
